Yorkshire Under 17’s earned a well deserved victory over Lancashire at Driffield RUFC. The final score of 5-0 tells very little of the game, with Ripon players Stuart Cross and Sam Watkinson making telling contributions. Unfortunately prop Rob Wilson suffered a suspected torn back muscle during the warm up and was unable to take any part in the game. Full match report on brendan’s blog

The Yorkshire Under 17 season begins in earnest this Wednesday when they take on a select North Yorkshire Under 17/18 side at York RUFC. The game has been organised as a warm up for the forthcoming county programe. Ripon rugby club will be heavily involved contributing a coach and three players to the county side, with the North Yorkshire side pulling on the experience of 6 more of the club’s Under 17’s as well as coaching input from Lawrence Black and Sid Watson.
The North Yorkshire invitation side looks particularly strong with several international, divisional and county players also available. Furthermore, Andy Rickard will be present as chair of Yorkshire Under 18’s and will be running a critical eye over potential talent for his county side next season.
The game kicks off at 7.00 pm and all supporters are welcome.

Congratulations to Rob Wilson, Stuart Cross and Sam Watkinson who’ve all been selected to the Yorkshire Under 17 squad; Ripon’s other representative, Graham Currigan, narrowly missed out on a place in the squad. It’s a huge honour for Ripon rugby club to have three players in any county squad and it reflects the hard work and commitment to develop young talent at the club.
The county programme begins in January and updates will be posted regularly at my blog on http://brendan.riponrugby.co.uk

Good luck to Rob Wilson, Stuart Cross, Sam Watkinson and Graham Currigan who are all playing in the final trial for selection to the Yorkshire Under 17 squad on sunday. It’s fantastic to have 4 Ripon players represented at this stage of the county selection process and they each have a fantastic opportunity to go on and claim full county honours this season. I know you will all join me in wishing them success on Sunday.
