Under 13’s Finish On A High

Report from Under 13 Head Coach, Graham Christy:

The final weekend of the season saw Ripon U-13’s travel to Darlington for a festival. After beating Wharfedale (with a last second penalty by Guy Watkinson), Acklam & Hartlepool Rovers in the group stages they faced an equally strong Percy Park side in the final. In one of the most keenly fought and competitive games of rugby this season, Percy Park beat ripon 5 - 0. The game was won by the percy Park fullback who pulled of a try saving tackling on Glenn May in the last two minutes of the game as he was heading towards the posts.

Ripon were also awarded the fair play award by Darlington Festival organisers for the behaviour of players on the pitch and the spectators.

In a season that has seen the team lose only 3 games and score over 800 points, it is a testament to the squad ability, commitment and pure stubbornness that they can now compete with teams of the standard of Percy Park. Well done to one & all.

U13’s Win Harrogate Super 10’s

Congratulations to our Under 13’s who won the Harrogate Super 10’s tournament on Saturday - great achievement for players and coaches. Report from team manager Paul Gill:

“Ripon R U F C’s under 13’s were invited to Harrogate’s Junior Rugby festival on the 19th April 2008. The day was bitterly cold but Ripons spirits were very warm as they won all three games in their pool. First up was North Ribblesdale who were beaten 36-12. Ripon had then to play their next game against York straight away but they still had enough juice in the tank to come away with the same score of 36-12. (more…)

U13: Ripon 33 Malton & Norton 17

Even though Ripon won 33-17 Malton were unlucky not to finish a lot closer due to a very physical pack. The game was probably the best game of the season so far.
Ripon started by scoring in the first minute after Malton couldn’t release the kick-off ball from a ruck.Ripon won the scrum and Glen May scored his first of two tries under the posts. (more…)

Ripon under 13’s hosted Guisbrough on the 3rd March 2008. The game was very well contested but Guisbrough were too strong especially in defence leaving Ripon to lose their second game of the season 14-29.

U13 result: Ripon 40 York 12

From Team Manager, Paul Gill:

Ripon R U F C’s under 13’s hosted York on the 13th January 2008.Ripon were winners by 40-12 but the score certainly didn’t reflect the game as York put up a very gutsy performance throughout the game with exceptional tackling and their forwards had the majority of turn over balls in the rucks and mauls with Ripon hesitating to get in to the action.

York were first to score after being awarded a penalty try.York’s winger would have scored in the corner after chipping the ball forwards if he hadn’t been tackled without the ball. Ripon soon levelled the score five minutes later (more…)
