U13: Ripon 33 Malton & Norton 17
Published by Under 13s on March 16th, 2008 in Under 13's
Even though Ripon won 33-17 Malton were unlucky not to finish a lot closer due to a very physical pack. The game was probably the best game of the season so far.
Ripon started by scoring in the first minute after Malton couldn’t release the kick-off ball from a ruck.Ripon won the scrum and Glen May scored his first of two tries under the posts.
Malton kept the game alive by scoring one of their own two minutes later set up by their forwards recycling the ball from a ruck they scored in the corner,The conversion went wide of the posts.
Callum Findlay scored his first of two tries impressively when he single hand idly powered his way through Malton’s defences from a tap penalty on their 22 meter line. The conversion was missed by Ripon. Malton still remained in the game after two to three minutes camped on Ripon’s 5 meter line with at least eight pickup and drives from rucks. They deservedly scored after inflicting so much pressure on Ripon’s defences who did hold up very well. Half time drew the first half to a close just after Guy Watkinson scored under the posts converting his try to stretch the lead to 19-10.
Watkinson started the second half like he had finished the first in style. He gathered the kick off on his 22 meter line and was only tackled on their five meter line.Ripon managed to recycle the ball and get over the line but Malton’s defence managed to hold the ball up.Ripon won the scrum and Findlay scored his second.
May scored again in the corner just before Malton scored their last well deserved try.Watkinson kicked four of his five conversions.
Miles Wariner received the man of the match trophy for his outstanding tackling and work rate throughout the game. There isn’t a game next week due to Easter but we will be at home to Pontefract on the 30th March.
